Lucky today

Things are good these days.  The hot sun bakes the earth and we play in long, sweet, slow days.

My four-year-old sprite of a girl crawled up into my lap after a bath the other night.  Her sweet, wet hair and warm breath consumed me as I wrapped my arms around her soft, small body.

It was one of those moments where you step back and look at all you have and marvel.

The girls played together, heads close, dolls bouncing on the carpet.

The girl in my lap prattled on and on about her day and the little inchworm she found that tickled her finger all afternoon.

“Wasn’t I lucky today?” she sighed as she nuzzled into my chest.

Yes, baby.  We’re all so lucky today.
