My Grouchy Ladybug

It was day and it was very cold.

There was a frozen lake that was very pretty.  5 little animals were there and were looking at the water and the rocks.  But a grouchy ladybug came.  She wanted to look at the water and a rock, too.  She had just smashed a muffin or two into her mom’s bed, and needed something new to do.

She also wanted to look tough.  So she pulled a button off of her new coat and threw it on the ground.  (That would show her momma for not sewing it on tight enough.)

“Hello,” said a friendly little monkey.  “Nice rock.”

“It’s mine!  All mine!  You can’t have it!” screamed the grouchy ladybug.  “Unless you want to fight me for it.”

“If you insist,” answered the friendly little monkey.  It smiled at the grouchy ladybug.

“Oh, you’re not big enough for me to fight,” the ladybug said.

“Then why don’t you go pick on somebody bigger?” asked the monkey.

“Fine!  I will!” shouted the grouchy ladybug.

Later, the grouchy ladybug met a cold little lobster.

“Hey you,” said the grouchy ladybug. “Want to fight?”

“If you insist,” said the cold lobster, showing its big red claw.

“Oh, you’re not big enough,” said the grouchy ladybug, and flew off.

Later, the grouchy ladybug met a sweet little butterfly.

“Hey you,” said the grouchy ladybug. “Want to fight?”

“If you insist,” said the sweet butterfly, showing its beautiful wings.

“Oh, you’re not big enough,” said the grouchy ladybug, and flew off.

Later, the grouchy ladybug met a cute little puppy.

“Hey you,” said the grouchy ladybug. “Want to fight?”

“If you insist,” said the cute puppy, showing its big teeth, one of which should fall out any day now.

“Oh, you’re not big enough,” said the grouchy ladybug, and flew off.

Later, the grouchy ladybug met a great big spider.

“Hey you,” said the grouchy ladybug. “Want to fight?”

“If you insist,” said the big spider, showing its fangs.

“Oh, you’re not big enough,” said the grouchy ladybug, and flew off.

Then the grouchy ladybug tried to fly away from her mother and jump in the river, just for fun.

Her mother chased her down and nearly cried, because this grouchy ladybug is just so grouchy sometimes.

But then all the little animals gave the grouchy ladybug a hug and told her “Good job,” for not jumping in the river.

And they took her home and gave her food and put her in bed.

“Oh, thank you,” said the cold, tired, and hungry ladybug.
